Running Injury in Spring House

Running Injury in Spring House PA

Running injuries in Spring House are amongst the most common of all sports injuries.  It is estimated that for the average recreational runner, who is steadily training and who participates in long distance runs, the overall yearly rate for running injuries varies between 37 and 56%.  If incidence is calculated according to length of running time, the incidence reported in the literature varies from 2.5 to 12.1 injuries per 1000 hours of running.  About 50 to 75% of all running injuries tend to be overuse injuries due to the repetitiveness of the movements.

The most common running injuries in Spring House are:

  1. Runner’s Knee
  2. Achilles Tendonitis
  3. Hamstring Injuries
  4. Plantar Fasciitis
  5. Shin Splints
  6. Iliotibial Band (ITB) Syndrome
  7. Hip pain

Running is a highly repetitive activity that is associated with a tremendous amount of impact force.  These repetitive forces can lead to strains in the muscles, ligaments and joints.  These repetitive strains are called microtraumas.  The body responds to these microtraumas by laying down new tissue, called adhesions or scar tissue, to the damaged area.  Every run exposes the tissue with the same forces and microtraumas causing more adhesions to build up within the soft tissue.  This leads to pain, tightness, stiffness, restrictions and possibly numbness/tingling.

Once the scar tissue is laid down, the soft tissue structures also become weaker resulting in more scar tissue formation. As the adhesions accumulate, they will place stress on other areas in the kinematic chain.  The Cumulative Injury Cycle is an infinite cycle that needs to be broken!

Passive treatments such as medication, steroid injections, rest and ice all attempt to address the symptoms yet do nothing to address the dysfunction within the soft tissue.

Fortunately, a treatment called Active Release Technique at Fuller Chiropractic and Sports Injury Center has proven to be an effective method of treating many common running injuries by breaking up the adhesions within the soft tissue.  K-Laser treatments are also and effective adjunctive treatment that helps speed up the recovery process.

OUR TREATMENTS AT FULLER CHIROPRACTIC AND SPORTS INJURY CENTER

ART - Active Release TechniquesActive Release Technique is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement-based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves.  It is a complex treatment system that address the deeper adhesions within the soft tissue as well as in between 2 soft tissue structures.  There is no other soft tissue treatment that can compare to one given by a skilled Active Release Provider.

K-Laser TherapyClass IV Laser Therapy is an FDA cleared therapeutic treatment that manages pain and inflammation while accelerating tissue regeneration.  Laser energy increases circulation, drawing water, oxygen, and nutrients to the damaged area.  This creates and optimal healing environment that reduces inflammation, swelling, muscle spasm, stiffness and pain.

Both treatments are effective at treating shoulder injuries alone.  In combination, they achieve better and quicker results.
